Almost six months on from Australia’s first-ever uterus transplant, recipient Kirsty Bryant has opened up about her plight to fall pregnant, sharing some incredible news with 60 Minutes last night.
In a special update report by Sylvia Jeffreys, Kirsty Bryant confirmed she and her partner were expecting after her own mother donated the reproductive organ to help them achieve what they once thought was impossible.
Kirsty told Today Extra the chances of her actually falling pregnant were 50-50 so when they got the news, she was “speechless for the first time ever”.
“The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation have been incredible, holding my hand along the way and my mum’s and my whole family,” she said.
“We wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.”
While Kirsty is just seven weeks pregnant, she said she has been open about her journey and wants to stand as an example for others who have lost hope at falling pregnant that “miracles” do happen.
